Soloists, Galina STEPANENKO Galina Stepanenko was born in Moscow. Being a talented student of the Moscow State Academy of Choreography she danced the leading roles in the ballets: Lisa "La Fille Mal Gardee", Svanilda "Coppelia", Soloist "Paquita". Upon graduation in 1984 from the Moscow Academy (S. Golovkina's class), she was admitted to the company of the Moscow State Ballet Theatre, managed by N. Kasatkina and V. Vasiliev. Even at the outset of her career she danced all leading parts of the theatre's repertoire: the Soloist ("Theme with Variations", G. Balanchine's production), the Witch ("Creation of the World" N. Kasatkina's and V. Vasiliov's production), the Soloist ("Bachiane" Alberto Alonso's production, staged by the author especially for her and Vladimir Malakhov).
Several seasons she worked at the Moscow Musical Theatre named after K.Stanislavsky and V. Nemirovich-Danchenko, where she danced the parts of Odette-Odille ("Swan Lake", choreography by V. Burmeister), Kupava ("The Snowmaid"), Medore ("Le Corsaire") and Kitri ("Don Quixote").
In 1990 she was invited to join the Bolshoi Ballet Company. Perfect technique, light leaps, high speed of rotations promoted her to the rang of "Bolshoi Ballet Stars". Her repertoire at the theatre includes Odette-Odille ("Swan Lake", Yu. Grigorovich's production), Giselle ("Giselle"), Raymonda ("Raymonda"), Aegina ("Spartacus", Yu. Grigorovich's production), Sylphide ("La Sylphide"), Princess Aurora ("The Sleeping Beauty"), Rita ("The Golden Age", Yu. Grigorovich's production), Mary ("The Nutcracker", Yu. Grigorovich's production), Bacchante ("Walpurgis Night" from the opera "Faust", choreography by L.Lavrovsky). Most significant parts for Ms. Stepanenko in premiere ballets are considered to be Nikiya ("La Bayadere", 1991) and Medore ("Le Corsaire", 1992 and 1994). In 1996 Vladimir Vasiliev staged his renowned ballet "Anyuta" and chose Ms.Stapanenko to perform the leading part. In 1997 she danced Swan Princess in the new V.Vasiliev's production of "Swan Lake".
Galina Stepanenko is a recipient of the First Prize and of the Prize of the Vaganova Academy at the All-Union Ballet Competition in Moscow (1984). Recipient of the Second Prize at the International Ballet Competition in Moscow (1985). Recipient of the First Prize at the International Ballet Competition in Moscow (1989). Galina Stepanenko is a Merited Artist of Russia (1994). In 1995 she became a recipient of the International Ballet Prize "Benois de la Dance" of the International Association of Choreographers. In 1996 Ms.Stepanenko was awarded the title of the People's Artist of Russia. Galina Stepanenko graduated from the Choreography Department of the Russian Academy of Theatrical Art (prof. M.Semionova). In 1996 Boris Eifman invited her to the role of Kitri in his new ballet "Don Quixote or Fantasies of a Madman".
